- Photos of closets, cabinets, and storage areas.
- Photos of major furniture, electronics, appliances, and tools.
- Photos of rented storage areas if applicable.
- Exterior photos of the home, garage, shed, fencing, and outdoor equipment.
- Video walkthroughs if that is easier than item-by-item photos.
- Photos of serial number plates on appliances, electronics, and equipment.
- Photos before hurricane, wildfire, flood, or winter storm seasons if risk is elevated.
Item Details
- Serial numbers for major electronics or equipment.
- Receipts or purchase records for selected higher-value items.
- Appraisals or special records if already available.
- A protected digital and paper copy of the inventory.
- Brand, model, purchase date, and approximate cost when easy to find.
- Photos of jewelry, collectibles, tools, musical instruments, or specialty items.
- Warranty records, manuals, or repair records for expensive items.
- Notes about items borrowed, rented, leased, or owned by someone else.
Keep It Usable
- Update one room at a time instead of waiting for a perfect full inventory.
- Save files somewhere you can access if your phone or computer is damaged.
- Name folders clearly by room and date.
- Review the inventory after major purchases, moves, renovations, or seasonal storage changes.
