Pet Preparedness Checklist

Pet Kit
- Pack food, water, bowls, and comfort items.
- Include medications, dosing notes, and veterinary contacts.
- Pack leashes, harnesses, carriers, crates, litter, waste bags, and cleanup supplies.
- Keep a current photo of each pet with your household.
- Include familiar bedding or toys when practical.
Records and Identification
- Keep leashes, carriers, and records accessible.
- Keep vaccination records, licenses, microchip information, and adoption papers together.
- Check that tags and microchip contact information are current.
- Write feeding instructions, behavior notes, hiding places, and handling needs.
- Keep copies of pet insurance or care records if relevant.
Evacuation and Care
- Identify pet-friendly options where possible.
- Ask friends, relatives, boarding facilities, or hotels about pet policies before an emergency.
- Practice getting pets into carriers or vehicles without rushing.
- Bring pets indoors early during storms, smoke, fireworks, or evacuation watches.
- Do not leave pets behind if evacuation is ordered and it is safe to take them.
- Plan separately for livestock, fish, reptiles, or other animals with special transport needs.
